I’m in my last semester of school, I am taking a course about color theory. While it is proving to be very challenging and more time consuming (and not to mention expensive) than I expected, [Read more…]
Home Depot Photo Session | 4 Year Old Pictures
Today is my baby girl’s birthday. This girl is a ball of sweetness, courage, sass and just the best. I can’t imagine our family without her. She constantly tells us to “be brave like Wonder Woman”. She will cup my face with her hands or throw her arm around my shoulder and say “I just want to keep you forever”. She also is super independent, determined and so creative. She loves to come to work with me and to build things. Her favorite store is The Home Depot. Seriously, how cute is that? On July 4, I told my husband I had to go to Home Depot and she gasped so loud and said “Home Depot?!?” and she had to come with me. I like to get photos of my kids around their birthday, at the very least, so I can see how they’ve grown. This year we decided to have a Home Depot Photo Session for her 4 Year Old Pictures.
Diorama – A Constructed Photograph
Recently I sought to construct a photograph, meaning that I controlled every aspect of the scene. Diorama – A Constructed Photograph was the goal. Alabamian’s say you MAKE pictures, ie, “I’m going to have my pictures made”. I laughed when I first heard that; to me you TAKE pictures. Honestly, call it whatever you like, I won’t judge but this project brought some understanding to what it means to make a picture.
This assignment required us to construct the [Read more…]
Senior Pictures Birmingham, AL // Jo
I’m thankful for Snapchat! I’ll be honest, I don’t even really know how to use it… but it’s brought me closer to someone important to me. My little sister is 15 years younger than me. That’s a big age difference! Combine that with our physical distance of living on other sides of the country, it’s sometimes hard to stay connected to my siblings. We’ve been working on it though and I invited my sister to come out to visit us. This cool teenage kid decided she wanted to spend her spring break with me and my family. How sweet is that? The trip was awesome and I really enjoyed getting to know her better. While she was in town, we checked out Breakout Birmingham (so fun!), went to the zoo, McWane, it was just great. We also made time for two photo sessions around Birmingham, AL to capture some senior pictures of her. She’s not really a senior yet but still, it was a fun excuse to capture her.

DIY 5 Minute No Sew Headband
This is an updated post of my most popular post ever! The crazy thing is I almost didn’t even post it because I thought, it’s too easy but I’m glad so many people have found it helpful. There have been a lot of comments and messages with questions and requests for a video tutorial – which I’ve never done before. I do videos for my full time day job sometimes but never really for my site but I was excited to try it out. Plus my daughter’s head has grown so it was time to get new ones made.
These are really inexpensive and easy to make so they would make some fun gifts for family or friends. You can see the original post here.
Happy 9 Years, My Love
Today I celebrate 9 years of marriage to my best friend, Stephen. This post is personal and fair warning, the images are different than what I usually share but I think they are hilarious and well done and I just can’t stop smiling when I look at them. If you don’t like the hint of nudity or humor, please ignore this post.
Salt City Coachworks Branding and Logo Project
I’ve been absent from this blog a lot. It’s always been an off and on thing for me. A nice creative outlet and I love it. But I’ve never really known what it should be. It’s kind of random focus and my imagined reader is myself and I think my content reflects that. I’ve gone back and forth about if I should treat this more like a business and “niche” down to more focused and related content. I’ve made peace with myself recently about a lot of things and found that where I am in life right now just doesn’t allow me to make this a business. Holding out for that business possibility holds me back from sharing myself here. I tell you all this because while I have done a lot of creative projects and created some new recipes lately, it’s so hard to put them together in a post. Right now I’m going to school and working full time, plus I am a mom and wife. I still make time for my creative outlets but because of this nagging self voice I have in the back of my mind I feel like I must share it all here or do nothing. I still hope to share it all and have a growing folder of “to blog” photos that I want to share so badly. It’s just not realistic so if I have any consistent readers out there and this content I’m about to share doesn’t interest you, I understand. My focus lately has been on design and creative growth professionally and academically. It’s got me thinking about how to brand and market myself and my work and where I really want to be professionally in the future. That brings me to share my latest side gig of a Salt City Coachworks Branding and Logo project.
I’m playing with ideas on how to best display this information and build a better portfolio of my work and bring it to life a little more than a flat image. Salt City Coachworks is a collision repair and restoration business in Salt Lake City, Utah. While researching and working through my process to approach this project, I drew inspiration from a vintage auto shop.
