Coming home to the basement progress today and yesterday has been exciting and I haven’t really known what to expect. I have never worked with contractors and the experience so far has been… interesting. Talking to other people, my experience is not unique so it must be the industry. Really at the end of the day as long as we are getting the product we want, in the timeline we were promised, that is all that matters.
I will admit coming home to the drywall yesterday was shocking. Of course I expected it to be hung but I have never seen just drywall. I called my dad and said it looked like crap. Things weren’t lined up, holes for vents were cut too large, chunks were missing in areas, etc. He reassured me that was normal and that was why they did mudding and the texture and it will hide the “crapiness” I was seeing. I felt better hearing that.
I wanted to get some pictures but I was tired and couldn’t find my memory card for my camera so Stephen just snapped a few with his phone and that is what we get!
When we came home today, things were looking much better – as my dad said it would. I know they will do more mudding tomorrow and sanding all of that. Seeing the progress from yesterday to today makes me feel more comfortable that it will turn out in the end. I took some pictures of things that still look bad to me just to see more progress and have something to reference when we get to the end. I will be interested to see how they make some of these issues look complete at the end.
When we first got home and went to the door, I was not impressed and was worried about what we would find after. There was mud on the door and a chunk of the door frame missing.
Here is another shot of wood missing.
This is probably the most concerning for me. I hope no one electricuted themselves with this. From the drywall pictures it looks like the drilling into the outlet was done when they hung up the dry wall. I am assuming this outlet will need to be replaced because there is no way a plug will go into that in a proper manner but I hope it didn’t do anything to the wiring.
The outlets on different walls have various amounts of mudding. I don’t know why that is but these are just hanging there.
And part of the frame of the door.
The ceiling areas where they cut the holes too big for things like, vents, light fixtures, etc. have been filled with mud but right now it looks like the ceiling is drooping in those sections.
We will have this exposed area for a water pipe and it is covered in mud. I am assuming it will just wipe off in the end but kind of funny to see now.
I just thought this looked like it would make a good picture.
Here is the mess of supplies today. I didn’t get a picture of it yesterday but today looks so much neater and less messy!
