I’ve been meaning to start this post for a while but I’m a little in denial. My sweet, beautiful, giggly little girl is one, already!
We decided to forgo a big first year birthday bash. We did a little something with our son on his first birthday when we were back in Utah but we aren’t super close to a lot of family here in Birmingham and thought we’d keep it simple and just the four of us. But I knew I wanted a nice photography session for this milestone. With our first, I took more professional photos each month until he was a year. Well since she came along, it’s been her newborn pictures, family pictures here and there, but mostly iPhone photos. I wanted something nice that we will all cherish for years to come. Of course, I turned to Pinterest to begin my search and stumbled upon a beautiful photo of a baby in a basket with balloons. I just thought it was a fun idea. I got the shot I had in my head and I totally love it!
Using my silhouette and some soft gold fabric paint, I made a tank top onsie. I followed this tutorial for a tutu dress and I cannot believe how easy and fast it was! I filled that sucker full of tulle to get it really fluffy! I left a little tulle and cut it into circles to make a little flower. I stitched it onto a gold headband from Walmart (in the hair and beauty section, not baby/kids) and it worked perfectly! I got a dozen balloons from Publix and dumped out our blanket basket in the living room. I really wanted a round basket like the inspiration photo I saw, but I just couldn’t justify getting something for a one time use when we already had a perfectly good and cute basket.
We went to a Veterans Park in Birmingham, Alabama. We set up near the running trail and people around us were oohing and awwing over her and the set up. We got lots of compliments on the idea and how cute she is. Which we hear a lot, I mean look at that face.
Looking back through photos, she looks so much like Reece when he was her age, just a little more feminine and less chunky. Except for her cheeks, she has such kissable full cheeks! I just want to squeeze them all the time! And they are so red all the time with her teething! She’s got 8 teeth that have broken through!
She’ll be walking soon, I’m sure.
I thought I’d try something a little fun and adventurous with her. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
I battled with her headband the whole time. She has started to resist the headbands and it makes me so sad! I will keep putting them on as long as she’ll let me but when they get twisted and I fix them, she has started to grab them and pull them off! It didn’t help that it was a million degrees and we were all sweating as soon as we stepped out of the car. But she was a champ and let me adjust the thing here and there.
She has her diva moments. She pouts and turns her nose up to things. She also has a bit of a temper on her which always surprises me because she is usually so sweet. She does not like it when she doesn’t get her way! I don’t know where she gets that from…
That’s the “I’m so over this MOM” face!
I am so happy with how these turned out. We have a picture from Reece’s first birthday photo shoot, framed and hanging in our dining room. I need to pick one to do the same with hers. I could hardly even narrow these pictures down for this post, how will I pick ONE???
Anyway, Happy Birthday to my dear sweet Libby. I am so blessed to be your mom and thrilled to watch you grow and become the woman you want to be. I love you!
