My mom gave me the idea of adding a clip to a wood easel or wood piece to display my printables that I feature here for free from time to time and also what I am selling in my Etsy shop. I was thinking through that idea and envisioning a crafted DIY clip board display. Elevate Everyday, another contributor over on Capturing Joy with Kristen Duke shared a post with a similar idea of a DIY Art Display. That really gave me the inspiration to actually make this thing and I have to say, I love how it turned out.
I went to Lowe’s and got a 10″ wide board. They come in different lengths so you can pick whichever fits how many you wish to make. I had them cut the boards in 12″ lengths.
When you get home, you’ll want to paint or stain them. I plan to use these as a display and sell them in my Etsy store. I picked neutral colors of paint and stain so they would easily go with changing pictures and still match.
Here’s a tip when painting boards like this. Always paint the sides first. You can hold the board and worked your way around.
Then after you can lay the board flat on the table and work on the top. It makes things more efficient so everything can dry together and get done faster and I am all about that. I’m a pretty messy painter so don’t mind the marks on my table. They scratch off easily, which I’ll take care of later 🙂
I like things to look rustic and vintage so after the paint is dry, I sand the edges and brush a little stain over the painted boards to rough it up a bit. Once everything is dry, I used gorilla glue to glue a bulldog clip on the board. I found my clips at Walmart but have seen them at craft stores as well. I added a sawtooth hanger to the back so I can hang this on the wall but it would sit nicely in an easel as well.
I really love the way this DIY clip board display turned out. I’m excited to hang one in my house to put up some of my printable designs. This would make a great gift. If you don’t feel like making one on your own, I’ll be adding them to my Etsy shop soon I can just ship one over to you! Here are the other colors I made this in. I hope you like this idea.
