Bottle & Bone – Birmingham, Alabama & Birmingham Bloggers

I recently joined a blogging network called Birmingham Bloggers. I attended one of their meet ups the other day and I have to tell you, it was so nice to get out of the house and meet some people. The meet up was at Bottle & Bone in Birmingham, Alabama.

It is really hard to make new friends in a new area. Most of my friends have come from school or work but since I don’t have either of those right now it’s a little tougher than I thought. I take my kids to story time at the library and other activities but it’s hard to break away from a rambunctious toddler and screaming baby long enough to really connect with someone else. Luckily my husband knew someone in the area and she has been great to hang out with and has introduced me to a few other people. This year is my year of branching out and trying new things so I decided to join something with people of similar interests. Seemed like a good start.
Anyway, enough of that blabbing, on to our meet up. It was a great night with fantastic food. I loved pulling out my camera and chit chatting.
Let me tell you about the fantastic food.
They brought out flights of bacon. The first piece I tried was perfectly seasoned and a great salty flavor with a little spice. I didn’t realize they had different bacon so I was pleasantly surprised when the second piece was sweet. My husband would have drooled over that spread.
Then they brought out these boudin balls. Oh my. They were heavenly!
There was plenty of spirits. I am still nursing and have never been much of a drinker so I wouldn’t be able to tell you much but everyone else seemed impressed. They did a sampling of some dark beers that were more dessert flavored that everyone seemed to really enjoy.
Then they did a sampling of the sandwiches. The Beef on Wcek – it has brisket, brown sauce & cream fraiche.
The Daily Grind – a delicious burger with pickles and aged cheddar.
I walked around the space a little. I love the hand lettering they have. This is huge and looks so great on the wall.
I had planned to make a to-go order for my husband but they had just closed the kitchen!!! It was only 8 p.m. so that would be my ONLY complaint about it. I don’t get out much so maybe that’s normal for the area but I guess it means that my husband gets to take me there the next time we go out so I can’t complain too much!
If you are in the area you must check out Bottle & Bone!
When I left my house, it was misty. When I left Bottle & Bone, it was pouring. I have never seen rain like we have here. It is amazing. I try really hard to always remember an umbrella and luckily the mist earlier in the evening reminded me to grab it. It was a nice way to end the evening.

Welcome to Alabama!! I know how hard it is to make friends as an adult, but we also have a little bloggy group that meets up for happy hour (don’t worry, I’m pregnant and not drinking!) and appetizers and it’s usually a good time!! Hope you can join us some time!
