Lately, I’ve been on this organization kick and trying a zero dollar approach to my projects. I curated a collection of only free printables for my small office space. I also created and included a Makers Gonna Make Free Printable that I’m excited to share with you today.
We are in a tiny apartment. It’s been an adjustment to go from extra space to a growing family being crammed in a much smaller place. It won’t always be this way but I’m embracing it by making the best use of the space we do have. I’ve set up camp in our dining area. We moved the kitchen table and it’s a bit crammed. I got a fold up plastic table that I’ve used for craft shows and keep it pushed up agains the wall.
I have this problem with an “all or nothing” mindset. I’d love for everything to be perfect and super pretty or I just don’t want to do anything. Lately, I’ve been working on just doing things and adding or updating later instead of waiting. This space has been one of those things. I put up the table and put my supplies on it and that’s about all it became. I decided to hold off on building the beautiful wood desk I really want so I figured why put any other effort into it? Well, the space wasn’t making me happy so one day I just decided to DO SOMETHING!
I’ve been tired of my supplies being scattered and was as planning to go out and buy some desktop organizers. But then I got thinking, is there something else I could use that is already hanging around the house? I’ve been holding on to some shipping boxes to use for Christmas but decided to spare a couple for this instead. I also have some old coffee containers and a broken cup that could hold tools and brushes. I was able to create a more organized space and didn’t spend a dime! I’ll eventually paint them or wrap them to make them pretty but for now everything is contained and easily accessible.
I made a banner with my business/blog name a while back and it hardly ever gets use. Since that part of the house is now dedicated to my work it seems a fitting place to put it on display.
Then I went online and found a few free printables that I wanted to incorporate in the space. Of course I ran out of the card stock I like to but challenged myself to “DO” so I just did with what I had and used plain copy paper and some wash tape. The prints would have been more vibrant if I had used cardstock and nice frames in black or gold might have looked fun. That will be the “upgrade” part of this later down the road. For now, I’m just happy to have some pretty things that inspire me and make me happy.
I’m really liking all of the designs together and the space makes me happy. I’ve had this glass seahorse ornament for years from my mother-in-law and am excited to finally have a place to put it. I saw a printable that was vertical that said “MAKERS GONNA MAKE” it was in a serif, bold font but it just didn’t really fit the space.
I quickly whipped up this sign of my own and shared it on my instagram. It’s been so well received that I decided to share it with you today. I seriously love it and it makes me think of Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” song. My kids and I love dancing to that so it bring smiles all around.
I’m really loving this space. It came together in about 20 minutes and cost nothing by using what I had on hand!
